Happy 2016! I hope you had a great and safe new year. I’m preparing for the arrival of my second child, so even though I didn’t ring in the new year with any partying, it has been busy around the house. February will be here fast and I’m excited.
It’s always hard to get things accomplished during the holidays, and the past holiday season was no different. I had wanted to already be writing my next book, but that hasn’t happened yet. I’m still outlining, along with performing a lot of other author-related duties to set myself up for success in the coming years.
“When you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” –Benjamin Franklin.
Archanum Manor is now in with the formatter and up for pre-order on Amazon for a discounted $0.99. It will be officially released on February 5th. Now I’m waiting to receive the paperback proof.
As you may have noticed, I just reformatted my website with a template to mimic Mark Dawson’s site, optimized to convert web traffic into subscribers. I like the clean look of the one-page site. When I have more money, I can get it more customized. But until then, I think this template (from the Self Publishing Site) is a nice improvement.
I now have all the graphics I need to start using Facebook and Twitter ads, so I have to fit “launching a few campaigns” into my schedule. I’m not planning to do much with the release of Archanum Manor, but I want to build my email list enough to start launching books in my next series properly.
My goals for 2016 are to:
- Complete three manuscripts in the new series.
- Release two of them.
- Reach a 2000/hr word count (with proper pre-production, short focused writing sessions, and dictation).
- Build my email list to the four digits.
- Build a 100-day book production schedule to use going into 2017 and beyond.
And with these goals in mind, I want to also work hard on what I’ll call “Write-Life Balance” (a simple play on the work-life balance idea). Unlike the goals above, this can’t be measured objectively. But it’s just-as (if not more) important than the goals listed above, because as important as my writing is, it isn’t everything. I will use this idea as a blogging theme for the year. We’ll see how that goes.
What are your resolutions and/or goals for the year? There’s no reason 2016 can’t be the best year of your life. But it won’t happen on its own. You have to make it happen!
